[PTab=Tab2]APPEARANCE - Ziggy Stardust
PERSONALITY - Dewstar is a pretty good leader, but probably not the best of friends, and that's the way he likes it. He's been able to keep his Clan out of war for his time as a leader -- little skirmishes might have happened, but nothing escalated beyond that under his guidance. He is cordial and polite to everyone, though there is always at least a second thread running through his mind. He listens closely and thinks quickly, preferring to wait rather than rushing into something. He is patient -- very patient -- and clever, preserving his energy until the plan is complete, and then unleashing it in controlled bursts. As he taught his apprentices to hunt -- don't waste your energy, be patient, and use your energy sparingly.
Perhaps because he is so thoughtful and attentive, Dewstar has a tongue as silver as his pelt and can be quite persuasive. He's keen and insightful, and he uses this to shape other cats' words and actions, a skill that he has honed for a long time, even since he's become a leader. Of course he's not perfect, but as he's gotten older, he's gotten wiser, and more able to speak to cats of all types. Is he always honest? Eh, no, not always. He's learned, however, that the best lie is mostly truth, so he does his best to stick to the easiest story: the one that actually happened. Not for some respect for the truth or morality or honesty, but because it is easiest and is likely to get him into the least amount of trouble.
See, Dewstar might be a strong leader, who listens, who keeps his Clan out of unnecessary bloodshed (meaning he'd also call a retreat on a large battle if it meant WindClan could get out safely), but he's not the "best" cat out there. He wouldn't go out of his way to protect another Clan or kits, unless it would somehow benefit him or WindClan. He feels no obligation to "do good," only to "do good by him" or by WindClan. He's not above killing, though he hasn't killed anything but prey and predators in the past. He lives to serve his Clan. While Dewstar had no kits, WindClan became his adopted kin, though he would never say that (he's not very good with emotions).
Part of the reason Dewstar never had kits was because he was never attracted to she-cats. Or perhaps because his heart found one home, and then that home went and died. Either way, Dewstar's never been fond of she-cats in the way that he'd like to have kits with them, so he's had no kits, no lovers. He's lived for his sister and his Clan, selfless, though some might accuse him of selfishness, of being too haughty for those around him. Perhaps he is a little bit proud, but he just knows that he's cleverer than many of the cats around him, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to keep his position for as long as he has. He might not seem trustworthy to cats outside of WindClan (because he has only his own Clan's interests at heart), but he will be a steadfast ally while the interests are aligned. When they're not, he's out. Perhaps it hasn't been mentioned enough times: Dewstar is loyal to his home and his family. It seems that nothing can come between that, even his shiftiness and cleverness.
FAMILY - Dam - Mintcloud (elder)
Sire - unknown
Littermates - Rainkit (deceased), Brooksong (sister)
HISTORY - One hundred and thirty-two moons ago, Dewstar was born to the young WindClan warrior Mintcloud, who kept the father -- or fathers -- of her kits a secret, as queens are allowed to do. His sisters and he came squealing into this world, each a healthy and loud kit. Mintcloud named the three of them Rainkit, Brookkit, and Dewkit. Dewstar and his living sister sometimes joke that perhaps she was trying to tell them that they were secretly half-Clan, that their father was RiverClan, what with all of them having different water-related names. No such evil truth has reared its ugly head, however, so Dewstar has never truly worried.
In truth, his kithood was utterly average. He asked questions, which were answered, and he was taught about the warrior code, he interacted with the elders, he longed to become a warrior, he play-fought with other kits in the nursery. When he was five moons, his sister, Rainkit, caught greencough and died very suddenly. Dewkit himself caught whitecough, and it seemed as though it would get worse, but, a true miracle, he healed without needing drastic measures. At six moons, Dewkit became Dewpaw, Brookkit became Brookpaw, and they received their mentors. Dewpaw's was an older warrior, named Swiftwing, a grizzly she-cat with barely any ears left on her head, so clawed and nicked were they. In the apprentice's den, Dewpaw became dear friends with another tom, named Stonepaw, who was slightly older and a bit awkward and shy.
Stonepaw became Stonefang, perhaps a play on words because of his stoic manner of speaking as well as his prowess in battle. Stonefang, Dewpaw, and Swiftwing were on a patrol one day, with a few other warriors of no note in this context, when they got into yet another quarrel with ThunderClan about the moorland on the other side of the stream. The quarrel soon turned violent and, in an act to protect Dewpaw, Stonefang put himself forward. He died of his wounds a few days later. This death, out of all other deaths that have ever affected Dewstar, dealt the greatest blow and shook him to his very core. When the time came for Dewpaw to gain his warrior name, he made the request to be named after his dear, dear friend, and so gained the name Dewstone. Dewstone and his sister sat in silent vigil together, with thoughts only of Stonefang swirling within him.
A little while after Dewstone earned his warrior name, Swiftwing retired to the elders' den, though the two remained fairly close, with Dewstone going to her for advice, and Swiftwing looking at him as a son. Mintcloud was never quite the motherly type, though she was certainly a capable warrior. Dewstone respected her for that, but that was about as far as their relationship went. She had fed him when he could consume only milk, and after that, she was back to her regular duties, seemingly relieved not to have to deal with kits any longer. It has not affected Dewstar in the slightest, or so he likes to think. He got what he needed from his sister and mentor, and his dear Stonefang, who almost certainly would have been more than friend if they had lived to be warriors together.
Dewstone, when he was entering middle age, had yet to have an apprentice, so many of his trips out of the camp were solitary. He remained close to his sister. Swiftwing eventually died gently of old age. There was a new leader, young and fresh, named Thistlestar. One time, when Dewstone was out alone, he stumbled upon some tunnels, and he recalled how there were tales of WindClan cats using tunnels to travel, and what an advantage that had been. He had never been certain if those had been true, perhaps in the ancient forest territories, but certainly not by the lake. When he approached Thistlestar with this news, she became fidgety and anxious, perhaps fearing that the tunnels were a danger, and could incite more expansionist cats to action, with or without her order. She was not the strongest deputy, nor the strongest leader, and so she pleaded with Dewstone that he remain silent. He said that he would have to think on it, but that this would undoubtedly benefit the Clan more than his silence could.
The next night, when a litter of kits was on the cusp of six moons, Thistlestar announced that they would be made apprentices, and she gave one to Dewstone. His silence was not persuaded or coerced, but bought. It worked. He said nothing, but trained his apprentice as Swiftwing trained him, and recalled all her gruff manners. Dewstone himself was far from gruff, but sometimes he found that "tough love" was the only way to teach -- not always, but sometimes, he had to be stern. His apprentice became a warrior without a hitch. Not too long later, he was granted another apprentice. And then the deputy died, and Thistlestar announced that Dewstone would be deputy. After all, the silver of his tongue matched that of his pelt, and WindClan could use someone who was able to hear all sides and speak in turn. He graciously accepted, and did all that he thought a deputy should.
After several long seasons, Thistlestar lost her last life to greencough, succumbing to the illness. Dewstone made the trip to the Moonpool and became Dewstar. Stonefang gave him one of his lives, his final life. So did Rainkit and Swiftwing, and Thistlestar, and the deputy before Dewstone and the leader before Thistlestar. If Stonefang had been alive, Dewstar would have made him his deputy. As it was, Stonefang was not alive. Dewstar approached his sister quietly, but she declined the position, and so Dewstar chose his second option, a respected warrior named Haretail. She has been his deputy since the beginning of his time as a leader.
Although Dewstar has been leader for almost three years -- thirty-four moons, to be precise (and he still has seven lives remaining -- the first one he lost to greencough, the second he lost when he was exploring the tunnels)-- he has yet to announce his plan to search the tunnels. He wants to find a talented tunneler, a young ingenue, or a veteran senior warrior, or both, or all of the above, to lead expeditions, to cultivate and train a new generation of tunnelers. Dewstar doubts he'll see this in his lifetime, WindClan's underground glory, but he wishes to propel it into existence, at least, to begin the journey to true greatness, to rival that of ThunderClan's under Tigerstar's rule, to rival that of any Clan under any cat's rule.

[PTab=Tab3]DO YOU BELIEVE IN STARCLAN? WHY OR WHY NOT?
Of course I believe in StarClan. I met them, after all, they gave me my nine lives. No, I'm not allowed to talk about that, but really, come on. I don't have any excuse to blow them off.
FAVORITE HISTORICAL CAT? WHY?
Perhaps Gorsestar, the second leader of WindClan. He was patient and intelligent, and led his Clan without any particularly well known calamities. Windstar, of course, founded the Clan, and there can be no doubt that she was -- arguably -- more important than Gorsestar, but I find his personality more appealing. It is not particularly becoming for a leader to be fierce and prickly, when being quick in mind and body and tongue, when needed, is more useful.
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST FEAR?
Without a doubt, being proven a fraud.
IF YOUR BEST FRIEND/MOTHER/WHOEVER KNOWS YOU WELL COULD DESCRIBE YOU IN THREE INDIVIDUAL WORDS, WHAT WOULD THOSE BE? DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE?
Clever, persuasive, patient. Brooksong sometimes has other things to say, but this is just three words and not a tirade. I would say I agree with these three words.
