KITTING FORM & RULES Kittens are adorable. We can all agree on that. Overgrown Coppice certainly agrees! Here, because we're trying to keep a more realistic feel to the site, the kitting process will be similar to real life cats. Things such as gestation period, season, age of the dam, and so on can affect how many kits there are. Of course, we don't want to have too many kits running around (who can feed them all?), so be aware of the mortality rate of wild cats. Some moons it might be higher, others lower. Also on this site, we keep it objective and use random.org for all of the litters and percentages and such, so that way everyone has an equal chance.
- Depending on the season and the age of the dam, the number and health of the kits will vary. Without the specific percentages, know that the best time to have kits is newleaf, and that mothers can be anywhere from 4 to 100 moons -- however, mothers outside of the age range of 18-80 moons are highly at risk either for health problems for them or for their kits, and there will be fewer kits in a litter. We ask that mothers, for the moment, not be outside the average age range unless there is a plot specific reason.
- On average, a cat's gestation period is 64 days, or 9 to 10 weeks, or about 2 and a half moons. Translated to Overgrown Coppice time, that's about a month real time. It can range from lower than that to much longer. The range of days when your cat can give birth will be given to you with the results of your litter.
- For a first-time mother, her litter will typically be only one or two kits. Subsequent litters range, on average, between 3 and 6.
- For the number, appearances, health, and sex of the kits, a randomizer will be used, according to the conditions of the birth, such as season and so forth.
- There must be at least two completed threads for the parents before they can have a litter together. If there is a surrogate, there must be two between the mates and then at least one with the surrogate. (Thus, two of your characters cannot be parents together, unless it has been approved for some special reason).
- For the first few litters, none is allowed to be a mixed-Clan litter.
- There can be multiple fathers of a litter. If this is so, just put in multiple of the sire form. ICly, your cat does not have to reveal who the sire(s) is/are. It is possible that not every sire will have kits in the litter -- this, too, will be a variable that will be generated based on the relationships of the dam and sires (more threads & steadier relationships generally mean greater chance of kits).
- We won't usually provide you with a photoset for your litter, but if you do really want a photoset we can try to include them for you.
You don't have to put this in code! You may either send it to a staffer or post it here, and we will reply with the stats of your litter.

TOGETHER Links to completed threads: Are they mates? / Will the sire be revealed? Is one or more a surrogate? If so, who is/are left that isn't involved in the kit-making? Any plot attached to the litter (really doesn't have to be, just helps us keep track)? Do you definitely want photosets for the kits chosen by us? Do you want to choose them yourselves? Let players who take the kits do it? Not have them at all?
