PERSONALITY - Turtlestar is an oddity. From the outside looking in, most would assume that the reason she tends to react slowly and take a long time to make final decisions is due to a lack of experience. Because she is one of the younger leaders, most look at her as a new addition - unsure of where to put her paws. From the inside, Turtlestar is well aware of these rumors, and does nothing to combat them as it means her rivals view her as a non-threat: they underestimate her due to her age, but don't seem to consider the fact that she's been working towards becoming the leader of ThunderClan since she was young. She's compassionate towards most cats, even those outside her Clan, and tries to handle all inter-Clan obstacles with a level head. However, when crossed, she can be rather vindictive - she puts ThunderClan above all else, and isn't shy to the idea of saving her Clan over any other. She loves kits, especially her own, and feels very maternal towards the younger cats in her Clan. As far as her interactions with her Clan goes, she tries to be fair to each member within ThunderClan, and respectful of the more experienced warriors. She's no stranger to discipline, and doesn't put up with cats of her own Clan acting without her permission or turning on their own clanmates. If she were to have suspicions or messages from StarClan, however, she's not quick to share them with her Clan - she understands that some cats panic easily, and wouldn't warn her Clan of danger unless she was absolutely certain of it. Sympathetic to a point, it's not hard to win Turtlestar's favor as long as one is honest and respectful, but it's an entirely different matter to win her trust back once it's been broken.

HISTORY -
Kithood | 0-6 Moons
Brightcloud and Rockstorm were possibly the oddest couple ever to exist in ThunderClan. Brightcloud was motherly, and calm under any sort of pressure. Rockstorm was exactly how his name sounded - he was loud, and his emotions would switch at the drop of a pin. His temper knew no bounds, and he was known for his angry outbursts. He spoke his opinion, frequently and often without being asked, and it was a constant rumor that one day he would leave the Clan - he was constantly clashing with the leader at the time, Stormstar, when he was a young apprentice and warrior.
But then you would see him interact with Brightcloud, and though no one could ever quite figure out why the two young apprentices were as close as they were, the effect Brightcloud had on him was immediate. It was as if a song was being sung, to calm the waters of Rockstorm's mind. When they were together, it was easier to see the charming, kind tom that Turtlestar had known as her father. The warrior to respect, to be proud of.
Turtlekit, Dusk-kit, Beechkit, and Volekit were all born shortly after the couple were given their warrior names. Brightcloud was a very young queen at sixteen moons, but it was as if her entire life had led up to being a mother. While other young she-cats, and even some experienced queens, might have struggled with four kits, Brightcloud handled her rambunctious bunch expertly. Beechkit was the biggest, and therefore the one who always got what he wanted - whenever Brightcloud wasn't looking, Beechkit would use his strength to bully the other kits into doing what he wanted, or giving him something he wanted from them. Turtlekit was constantly at odds with him - whereas she wasn't one for being outright aggressive, the smallest of the litter, Dusk-kit, was even worse. She would constantly cave to Beechkit's bullying, and so Turtlekit would step in to defend her sister. Somewhere in the middle of this squabble, Volekit would pop up with his infinite wisdom (even as a kit he was constantly giving Turtlestar advice, and to this day she still seems to find herself listening to his opinions, even if she doesn't ask for them), and somehow manage to calm the group.
Now, it wasn't to say that Beechkit was cruel - he was an opportunist. He knew he was biggest, and strongest, and used that to his advantage. But in the same way that he would bully his siblings, he would also protect them with fang and claw. Any other cat who attempted to bully his siblings would find themselves on the receiving end of Beechkit's fury. As they grew older, Beechkit would eventually mellow out - well, sort of. He still likes to get what he wants, but Turtlestar likes to think he wouldn't bully anyone to get his way anymore. Except for maybe her.
So there they were:
Beechkit, the big bully. Dusk-kit, the push-over with a bleeding heart. Volekit, the know-it-all. And Turtlekit, the quiet vigilante. They were an odd group, but they were raised by, in Turtlestar's opinion, the best cats in the forest. Somewhere in their kithood, they were taught to stick together, to help one another, and to never go against their parents' wishes, lest they face their combined wrath.
Apprenticeship | 6-12 Moons
For one reason or another, Turtlepaw found herself constantly at Duskpaw's side. Some might have called it a hero complex, and some might have called her a hover-sister, but she couldn't seem to stop herself from constantly stepping in to fight Duskpaw's battles for her. To this day, Turtlestar blames herself for her sister's soft personality, and meek anxiety. Even still, Turtlestar can't stop herself from trying to fight Duskberry's battles, and so there is a slight distance between her and her sister, something she's maintained herself, in order to stop enabling Duskberry's weaknesses.
Despite this, her apprenticeship was a simple, easy one. She was named the apprentice of an experienced warrior named Ospreyclaw, who she actually managed to get along with. Turtlepaw both respected and liked her company, proven by the fact that upon receiving her nine lives, she named her ex-mentor as her deputy. In her free time, Turtlepaw attempted to maintain her relationship with her siblings - carefully holding Duskpaw at a tail-length away, and wary of showing favoritism among the rest.
It was during her apprenticeship that she would meet a ShadowClan warrior named Swampflower. It was the first time that Turtlepaw ever noticed a cat from another clan, and the two quickly found an easy comfort in one another. Turtlepaw was in awe that an older warrior from another clan had any interest in her, but at the time, she'd have had no idea just how intertwined she and Swampflower would become.
Warriorship | 12-53 Moons
It wasn't long after receiving her warrior name that her relationship with Swampflower would change. Turtleheart was aware that having feelings for a cat from another clan was dangerous - if she were to ever meet Swampflower in battle, she would be expected to fight her just as she would any other enemy cat. But they grew closer, and her feelings grew stronger. The only cat other than Swampflower who knew about Turtleheart's feelings was Ospreyclaw, as Turtleheart had never felt the need to hide anything from her ex-mentor. When she wasn't working hard for her Clan, she was making an effort to maintain her secret relationship with the ShadowClan warrior.
Unfortunately, despite the feelings never fading, the relationship didn't - or couldn't - last. The space between them was like a chasm, the separation and taboo of their relationship wearing down on Turtleheart until she felt the need to connect with her own Clan closer. By the time she was thirty moons old, Turtleheart broke it off with Swampflower, despite the pain it caused her to do so, and focused on investing herself in ThunderClan even more. Imagine her surprise (and pride) when Swampflower was named leader only a few moons later. She met a tom named Goldenclaw, a respected senior warrior of ThunderClan, and though she didn't feel the same way for Goldenclaw as she did for Swampflower, she accepted his offer to become mates. It wasn't a volatile relationship, but there was no spark - no attraction. He was a nice tom, and kind to their kits when they were born around Turtleheart's forty-sixth moon - but the relationship crumbled like dust. They were hardly mates when Goldenclaw suddenly went missing during a cold leafbare, and though she worried after his safety, it wasn't anything like the longing she had to see the ShadowClan she-cat who had stolen her heart.
Just before her kits were made apprentices, they too went missing - Turtleheart woke one night to find all three missing. She had no doubt it was young Sandkit who had led the party - she was too headstrong, and too unconcerned about dangers to not be the ringleader. Turtleheart woke no one, slipping out of camp with a block of ice in her chest. She'd been heading towards the ShadowClan border, as if her paws were carrying her on their own accord, when she heard the cry. Her only son, Lightningkit - she'd know her child's cry anywhere, and it caused her heart to leap into her throat. Sprinting towards the lake, she saw two small figures huddled on the bank, and only a few feet from the water's edge, a gaping dark hole where the ice had been broken. She found Sandkit and Leopardkit standing on the bank, shivering and calling for their brother. As she was about to head out onto the ice, to go after her son, a familiar scent filled her nose, and in one moment a familiar face broke the tree line on ShadowClan's side of the border. Swampstar was a sight in the moonlight, but Turtleheart barely had time to explain what was happening before she watched the she-cat leap into the water. Anxiously, Turtleheart waited at the edge of the icy hole, watching for any sign of movement.
It felt like moons, but was probably only moments later, that Swampstar's head broke the surface and she pushed a drenched, freezing Lightningkit between Turtleheart's paws. Curling her tail around her kit, Turtleheart reached for Swampstar's cruff to help her out, only to lose grip - and watch her ex-mate sink below the surface. Panicked, she rushed Lightningkit back to his sisters, ordered them to keep him warm, and then threw herself into the freezing cold water.
She was too late to save the she-cat, and laid beside her on the cold hard ground as she lost a life. She felt the pain in her chest like someone had clawed straight through to her heart, but felt relief and joy when Swampstar finally opened her eyes again. Taking Lightningkit in her jaws, she ushered the weary leader and her kits back to the camp, and straight to the medicine cat's den. Swampstar would stay for a few days, and lose a second life to sickness, before the two were once again separated.
A few moons later, in Newleaf, Goldenclaw's body would be found - having gotten caught under the ice only to surface once it melted. Turtleheart would compare the pain of sitting vigil with her mate to the pain of laying next to Swampstar's cold body that night, and realize the two could never compare.
Deputyship | 53-76 Moons
Just before she reached her fifty third moon, Turtleheart was on a patrol with Thymegaze, Sandpaw - who was also Thymegaze's apprentice - and her own apprentice, Asterpaw. The two mentors were training them to hunt in rocky conditions when Turtleheart spotted a flash of scales - she leapt forward to grab Sandpaw's scruff, jerking her daughter to safety, and was certain the snake was going to bite her - but then Thymegaze was there, taking the bite. Releasing her daughter, Turtleheart attacked the snake viciously, biting down until it stopped moving. She ordered Asterpaw and Sandpaw to run ahead and warn Cloudfur of what happened, and she herself carefully escorted the deputy back to camp.
She waited outside the medicine cat den entrance to hear the news, but Cloudfur didn't have to say much for her to see what the news was. His pinned ears and grim expression were enough. Suffering a sigh, Turtleheart felt more like a failure than anything - only to find herself shocked when later that night, before the vigil for Thymegaze, Stormstar named her his new deputy. With a mixture of grief and pride, she stood beside her leader as her Clanmates called her name, and felt a swelling of duty and love for each face looking up at her.
Her deputyship was rather tame. She refused to allow herself to indulge in the rumors surrounding Swampstar's leadership, and felt nothing but gratitude (and love, though she would never admit it) for the she-cat's sacrifice in order to save kits that weren't her own - or even ShadowClan. Any mention of Swampstar's murderous past to Turtleheart was met with staunch distaste, and a quick tongue-lashing about spreading rumors. She worked hard to prove herself to her Clan, taking care to not over-assign cats, or pair cats who disliked one another. She spent time with her kits, though it wasn't long until they were warriors themselves, and Turtleheart found herself calling their names with pride and love in her heart. And when her father, Rockstorm, died due to a bought of greencough, she was there with her Clan, sitting vigil.
Leadership | 76-Present Moons
It came as little surprise when Stormstar called her into his den one night to inform her that he was dying. They sat and talked all night, and only a few days later the tom slipped away in his sleep. Turtleheart received her nine lives, and has since been focusing on leading ThunderClan with a steady, sure paw - only further helped by her trustworthy deputy and ex-mentor, Ospreyclaw.

[PTab=Tab3]DO YOU BELIEVE IN STARCLAN? WHY OR WHY NOT?
"Of course I do. I was raised to." The she-cat doesn't seem offended, stating her answer in a matter-of-fact manner. "Plus, one can't receive nine extra lives from StarClan if they don't believe in them. Just experiencing it is enough to make you believe."
FAVORITE HISTORICAL CAT? WHY?
"Stormstar. He was a respectable leader, and a kind tom. I can only hope to live up to his expectations." Her smile is fond and warm as she speaks of her predecessor.
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST FEAR?
"To fail my Clan, or to lose my kits." She states immediately, then pauses, considering something. "Or maybe losing Swampstar. I'm concerned for her, with these rumors. There are too many things I worry about, I couldn't possibly pick one."
IF YOUR BEST FRIEND/MOTHER/WHOEVER KNOWS YOU WELL COULD DESCRIBE YOU IN THREE INDIVIDUAL WORDS, WHAT WOULD THOSE BE? DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE?
Smiling, Turtleheart shrugged. "Too patient, too quiet, and too easily swayed? I don't really agree on any of them, but I'll let her think what she wants."
