[PTab=Tab2]APPEARANCE - Soft Grey Boy
PERSONALITY - Fernwhisker is a talker for sure, though he does know when to shut it. He will often ramble on and on till some one shuts him up, by then a conversation about herbs has spiraled all the way to a talk about how Perchfur needs to lighten up a tad. Joking is also a favorite pass time as he loves to make stupid herb puns and give different cats nick names. Aside from is fun loving quirky nature the tom is actually very kind and approachable, and actually knows what he is talking about. He loves history and loves to know about the cats before himself, and with his good memory that aids his job he retains stories quite well.
On the other hand the tom can be serious when needed, while trying to break tension and lighten a mood. Not only does he try to up his clans physical health but it's mental health and moral. Just as much as the tom talks he can listen making him a shoulder to lean on, and for a cat who's jaws work a mile a minute he is good at keeping secrets. The tom is quick to defend those he cares about and would easily lay down his life for the clan. When a cat moves on to Starclan Fernwhsiker becomes quiet and brooding, blaming himself for not doing enough, usually after cats die in his care he immerses himself in work. Loosing a cat who was significantly close to him may leave him in this state for moons.
Fernwhisker does have his flaws like all cats, he can often be forgetful especially when he is under stress. This usually causes more stress for him in the long run, escalating into blowing things out of proportion. While he is good at keeping secrets, sometimes when lost in rambling he could easily slip up. He may not be quick to anger but if you where to get on the medicine cats bad side, you will most likely stay their. Oh and let us not forget how petty the tom can be, he will remember that one time you mocked Honeyflower and you will never live it down.

HISTORY -
Kit (0-6 moons)
In his early years Fernkit was always chatty, loving to be heard. He would weave tall tales and make up stories of granger. In truth he found himself loving history and would reiterate stories told to him by the elders. In turn the kit would try to clean them of ticks at the age of five moons. He didn't mind these simple tasks, and it was one of the few times he would stop to listen. His siblings Dapplekit, Tigerkit, and Splashkit, did not share his love for stories but wouldn't mind listening when he echoed the elders words.
Warrior Apprentice (6-7 moons)
From Fernkit to Fernpaw the tom was originally placed on the path of a warrior, and while most apprentices would be excited to leave the camp and explore the territory the grey tabby seemed more interested in the simple tasks around camp. Whenever he wasn't busy the tom would continue with helping the elders, even bringing them prey and changing their bedding when needed. Tick cleaning while others least favorite tasks was one of Fernpaws most enjoyable past times, seeing it as a way to help the clan. This task also brought Fernpaw to the Medicine cat den often for mouse bile, where the tom really began to take interest in herbs. Within a months time the toms love for herbs grew and it was only a matter of time till this love defined his path.
Before Fernpaw properly became an apprentice Barkfoot stepped down as the clans medicine cat, not long after giving Honeyflower her full name. The young she-cat was only 16 moons and was tasked as the soul healer of Riverclan. The grey tabby tom had never gotten close with elder Medicine cat, favoring Honeyflower who was still called Honeypaw at the time when asking for mouse bile for ticks. Honeyflower was a kind timid cat in nature but often looked stressed once her mentor left her. In reality she was never destined to be a Medicine cat but a warrior instead, but Littlestar's insisted Barkfoot take on an apprentice, so she took it in stride. If the leader and medicine cat had waited only a few more moons they would have found the propper medicine cat apprentice but alas Honeyflower was placed in the position instead. That is to say the cream colored she-cat was a bad medicine cat though, just that her talents where better suited elsewhere.
Medicine Cat Apprentice (7- 20 Moons)
Honeyflower like most medicine cats would have waited seasons to take on an apprentice, but a sign from Starclan pushed her to taking on the seven moon old Fernpaw when she herself was only ten moons older. Fernpaw took to training under the kind medicine cat better than he ever did as a warrior, the only downside was he saw less and less of his nest mates as time went on. Fernpaw soaked up all information like a piece of dried out moss soaked water, and loved walking along side Honeyflower while they worked to collect herbs for the clan.
- First Trip to Moon Pool (7 Moons)
His first trip to the moon pool at half moon was mesmerizing, the stories Fernpaw had heard of the sacred place fueled him as he and Honeyflower walked through the marshes, along the lake shore of Windclan and too the pool itself. Meeting all the medicine cats from each clan was an experience in it of itself, and Fernpaw was talking his mentors ear off just wanting to know a little about each cat. Cats where familiar with Honeyflower and Barkfoot, and during the last half moon the medicine cats came to know of Barkfoots choice of leaving the life of a medicine cat. Seeing Honeydapple taking on an apprentice already they questioned her judgement but when Fernpaw stood up for his mentor and explained the situation the other medicine cats understood.
- Dapplepaw's Death (10 Moons)
Dapplepaw's death had been a shock to Fernpaw, his littermates, his parents, and some of the clan. Such a young cat taken at the hands of a monster. Few apprentices went near the path for a while after that fearing a similar fate. Fernpaw went silent after his sisters passing, something out of character for the tom. But her death brought Fernpaw a gift in disguise for you see Fernpaw lacked a propper messenger for his dreams with Starclan, Redleaf a cat he only knew through stories taking part in most of these dreams. But Dapplepaw's death brought a cat that Fernpaw was close with to bring him the information he needed.
It took Fernpaw a moon to come to terms with Dapplepaw's passing, Tigerpaw refused to speak with him for a little while due to how the tom froze under pressure, Splashpaw talked to him after a few days and became a shoulder to cry on. But when half moon came around and he saw Dapplepaw, he finally came to terms with the loss. He began to talk again and Honeyflower pushed him to get out of camp more, it took some time but finally Fernpaw was back.
---
Two moons later Tigerpaw and Splashpaw gained their full warrior names Tigerstripe and Splashstrike; Both grew into average sized warriors while Fernpaw seemed to be behind in growth. They both now stood about a whisker taller than him, and he resented that in silence. Fernpaw asked Honeyflower when he would gain his own medicine cat name, Honeyflower chuckled softly and reminded him that "An impatient hunter catches no fish." a favorite saying of the she-cat's.
- Medicine Cat Name (20 Moons)
Over time the medicine cats that traveled to the moon pool changed like the seasons. It started with Talonheart the Shadowclan medicine cat bringing a kittypet to the moon pool, the cat with the odd ears supposedly becoming the next medicine cat. Personally Fernpaw didn't care all that much, Starclan didn't seem to mind all that much, but some cats showed their resentment towards the idea with gusto. Cloudfur was an alright tom, and Nightpaw, now Nightstream was a very interesting she-cat. Funny enough Fernpaw as he grew closer to the group gave them all little nick names. Nightstream was Nighty, Cloudfur was literally anything having to do with fluffy, Talonheart was Grump, and Flatear was kittypet at first but when she stood up for herself and sassed back she became Sassy. Honeyflower never got a nick name, Fernpaw respected her too much to nickname the cat. Usually he preferred to call her just Honey though, and the she-cat didn't object so it stuck.
This trip to the Moonpool was an average trip, the walk was calm, Nightstream suprisingly holding up well despite the recent loss of her mentor. But once they reached the moon pool Honeyflower quieted everyone, it was rare for the timid she-cat to take control of a conversation, so everyone quieted down for her. Everyone sat down and looked to the medicine cat with a questioning gaze. Then she motioned to Fernpaw. "I, Honeyflower, Medicine cat of RiverClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. He has trained hard to understand the ways of a medicine cat, and with your help he will serve his Clan for many moons." The grey tabby tom looked shocked, he had not expected this, wasn't ready for this in fact.
"Fernpaw, do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat, to stand apart from rivalry between Clan and Clan and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life?"
The tom found himself at a loss for words, "I-I do!" He spoke at first sounding hesitant but finishing off strong.
"Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your true name as a medicine cat. Fernpaw, from this moment you will be known as Fernwhisker. StarClan honors your dedication and your prowess with herbs, and we welcome you as a full medicine cat of Riverclan." Honeyflower purred with satisfaction as the other medicine cats cheered the name Fernwhisker. The dream that followed was a warm embrace from Dapplepaw and Redleaf congratulating him.
- Featherflights Death (32 Moons)
Featherflight was just getting out of the nursery her second litter just reaching 6 moons. Tensions where high between Riverclan and Windclan, and a fight broke out between the two. It was an odd battle, but a few lives where lost on both sides. The casualties included Breezefur the deputy, one of Littelstar's lives, a few Windclan warriors and Featherflight due to injuries. She was able to make it back to camp, but a dangerously deep gash on her throat bleed out to quickly. Four cats lost a mother that day, a tom lost a mate, a kit just six moons was one of the cats to loose a mother. Fernwhisker like before when quiet, he did not freeze this time though he only went numb. Splashstrike approached the little Silverkit and calmed them, kept them company.
Fernwhisker did not get time to sit over his mothers body, or Breezefurs body for that matter, he had to work with Honeyflower to help all the cats wounded during the battle. Once the clans wounds had been treated he finally joined his family in mourning, and slept on the thought that his mother had been guided to Starclan by Dapplepaw.
- Honeyflowers Death (40 Moons)
Honeyflower's death was sudden and unexpected, the she-cat was only 50 moons old, she was health, she should have lived much longer. Starclan had other plans though, as one day the usually healthy cat just became sick. It started small, a little cough, then dizziness, then blood she was coughing up blood. Fernwhisker worked tirelessly to heal his fellow medicine cat, she was a role model to him, she trained him, made him who he was today, she loved the cat like kin. He tried every herbs everything she had ever taught him but nothing worked. In her final days she rested in her nest, she looked tired her eyes looked dull. She told Fernwhisker that she would be okay, that Starclan would welcome her with open paws.
Littlestar and Poppystep realizing that Honeyflower did not have much time left said their goodbyes. Fernwhisker refused to think she would die, he went days without sleep trying to fix the kind cream colored she-cat. She didn't deserve to die. Honeyflower convinced him to sleep, and when he finally woke up she didn't. He began to carry her out of the den stone faced and numb. Why Honeyflower, why the sweetest cat in his life, why? He didn't leave the medicine cat den for a while after that, opting to organize the herb piles again and again and again. He went silent again, he just didn't talk.
The next trip to half moon was lonely until reaching Windclan border, Nightstream and Sootflower walked beside him. Nightstream had seen Fernwhisker like this before, and when she didn't see Honeyflower it was easy to assume what had happened. Sootflower who was use to the tom being lively and talkative pressed for a reason. Nightstream tried to quiet hee but Fernwhisker stopped them. He looked to Sootflower and explained what had happened, Sootflower spoke kind words of Honeyflower and Nightstream followed.
Sootflower seemed understanding and kind, and this moment kickstarted a close friendship between the two cats.
- Present Day
Now Fernwhisker is a skilled medicine cat with multiple seasons spent serving his clan. He hopes to spend multiple more moons doing this but as the tom knows all to well no cat is immortal; so recently he had taken on an apprentice of his own apprentice. The tom has taken on a sort of protective role of the small she-cat due to how many times he has lost a she-cat close to him.

[PTab=Tab3]DO YOU BELIEVE IN STARCLAN? WHY OR WHY NOT?
FAVORITE HISTORICAL CAT? WHY? The tom stopped for a moment to think, "Brambleberry, that she-cat did all she could to save Stormkit. Then that kit became one of Riverclan's best leaders from the old forest, Crookedstar. Brambleberry deserves more recognition." Taking a breath he does back to sorting his herbs before stopping to continue "Also-

Fernpaw walked with Honeyflower, as dusk set in over the horizon. The weather was nice but the air held a crispness to it. The tom stood close to Honeyflower as they walked, talking the older cat's ear off about how excited they where. Crossing over into Windclan territory was exciting, this was the grey tabbies first time in another clans territory. He remembered specifically meeting Webwhisker and Nightpaw, and how the Windclan medicine cat had questioned Honeyflowers judgement. Webwhisker was an older cat, wiser and more experienced, it was understandable that they had an apprentice. Honeyflower stammered and failed to find the words she needed, heck she was barely older than than Nightpaw what right did she have to have an apprentice. Fernpaw took charge at this moment and explained to them what Honeyflower could not, the small tom elaborating that it was starclan that wanted him to become an apprentice. --- (more to come/ would like to edit this in post acceptance)
As previously stated Fernpaw found less and less free time to spend with his three siblings when becoming a medicine cat apprentice, schedules clashed and time spent together became less and less. That didn't mean he didn't try though, and when Honeyflower didn't need him he would seek out time with them. Dapplepaw was growing into a skilled warrior and a powerful swimmer; Tigerpaw as well seemed to take to water as if he was a fish himself, and hunted fish even better; Splashpaw surprisingly didn't live up to the splash name, steering clear of water whenever possible, but boy could the she-cat fight. Fernpaw at this point could easily heal common ailments, knew the best spots to forage specific herbs, and could swim decently whenever needed, but was lacking on the spiritual side of being a medicine cat.
Medicine cats could heal sure, but that was only part of their job. Being the door between their clan and Starclan was another equally if not more important job. Fernpaw lacked understanding of omens, and never took away important information from his dreams. At first both him and Honeyflower assumed that it was due to how young the tom was and that he lacked the propper training to understand the dreams. Honeyflower came up with a way to practice and try to help the younger tom gain a better understanding and to know what too look for, each morning after a dream the cream colored tabby would ask Fernpaw about his dreams. Fernpaw in turn would usually explain but go into too much detail as if he was focusing on every single part; even going so far as to naming specific herbs that he saw. Honeyflower in turn would try her best to interpreted these specific dreams, rarely did they have Starclan cats running though them though.
Moonpool dreams where different, the past three dreams spent at those holy waters usually had cats Fernpaw didn't know too well speaking to him, which was unsurprising due to the toms lack of dead kin. Both his parents where still alive, his litter mates too. Sure cats had died in the toms short life time though, Blackstone drowned saving Windclan kits during leaf-bare when he was still in the nursery, but otherwise nothing. This left him with unfamiliar cats to share his moonpool dreams with, Redleaf the Riverclan medicine cat before Sprigleaf seemed to be a common occurrence. Redleaf was a large tom with a rust colored coat and thick fur, one could easily mistake him for a warrior but in actuality the tom was just a kind hearted goof. Redleaf appeared in the toms first half moon dream, and explained simple and things about what a medicine cat was ment to do. During the second and third visits to the moon pool Redleaf wasn't their, no cat in fact, instead Fernpaw just walked alone and looked around. It was lonely, and no one explained why he was left to walk alone.
When talking with his siblings about being a medicine cat the few times they would she tongues, he stayed surprisingly silent about Starclan and the moonpool. The three assumed it had to do with medicine cats not sharing information with normal warriors, but would constantly pester him none the less. This usually ended with a short play fight that Fernpaw lost due to a lack of fight training. The actual reason behind the toms silence was a worry that Starclan maybe didn't like him, maybe Honeyflower was wrong and Fernpaw wasn't ment to be a medicine cat.
One night when the four decided they would go take a walk together, tragedy struck. They where wandering too close to the thunder path, playing a game of chance. Fernpaw was far behind his siblings, beginning to realize how much stronger and larger they where compared to him. Dapplepaw was being chased by all three at the moment, and was foolish enough to step onto the thunder path. In her joy and the rush of the game she began to cross, but didn't hear the monster approach over the sound of her own laughter. Her siblings screamed for her to come back but it was to late, the monster let out a large screech as it killed its prey. Blood was prominent on the dark stone path, a lifeless body leaking the crimson fluid. Once the path was clear Tigerpaw and Splashpaw dragged Dapplepaw to the edge of the path where Fernpaw stood, frozen. Tigerpaw screamed for Fernpaw to fix this, he was a medicine cat he could fix her. Fernpaw was in a panic, blood stained Tigerpaw and Splashpaws paws, and now his own. He watched as Dapplepaw, his own sister, leaked the blood that stained the two.
Fernpaw stood their in shock unable to move. Tigerpaw yells at him, his wordless noise fell on deaf ears as Fernpaw went numb. Tigerpaw getting angry at Fernpaw's lack of action ran towards camp to get help. Splashpaw was crying, wailing, between sobs asking Fernpaw to do something. Fernpaw was motionless as he looked at the limp motionless body of his kin, crimson fluid slowly reaching his paws, staining the grey fur red. It wasn't long till Tigerpaw came back with a group composed of Littlestar, Honeyflower, and two other warriors. Honeyflower confirmed what Fernpaw already knew, Dapplepaw had joined Starclan. While Splashpaw was able to walk back to camp Fernpaw was carried by Honeydapple, the tom still. Dapplepaw's body was carried back to camp by the two warriors, Featherflight who was in camp wailed at the loss of her kit. She cleaned the cold body of blood seeing as the injuries no longer flowed. A warrior was sent to go collect Gorsetail from border patrol, and as the moon shown over head the family mourned.
Honeyflower took Fernpaw too the medicine cat den, she licked the tom clean of his siblings blood and laid them down in their nest. Feeding them a couple poppies it wasn't long till unconsciousness took hold of Fernpaw. His dream at first was just darkness, but then the vibrant colors of a forest took its place. A familiar silver speckled pelt walked forward, and greater Fernpaw, this cat was joined by Redleaf who followed a few paces back. Fernpaw looked at the cat, Dapplepaw, and started to cry. He mumbled sorry in between sobs preaching that he should have done more, Redleaf watched on ad Dapplepaw comforted Fernpaw and reassured that he couldn't have done anything. The two cuddled as Fernpaw cried, Redleaf soon leaving knowing he done what he needed to.
Moonpool dreams now had a familiar cat to greet Fernpaw, a small dapple she-cat who knew Fernpaw personally and could give him the messages he needed. Redleaf was still their, he relayed to Dapplepaw what she had to tell Fernpaw, but a message going through three messengers can become muddled. Omens and prophecies usually ended vaguer than normal and hard to understand, but atleast they came from a close source.
Medicine cats could heal sure, but that was only part of their job. Being the door between their clan and Starclan was another equally if not more important job. Fernpaw lacked understanding of omens, and never took away important information from his dreams.
